I know there are a lot of Avatar naysayers out there but when the hairs rise on the back of my neck I know there’s something real going on. I felt it with Twilight and I feel it with this latest Avatar trailer which went up on Yahoo at 10 am PST (video on jump).

Produced by Thomas Edison’s very own Edison Studios, J. Searle Dawley’s ‘Frankenstein’ has been widely considered the first American horror film. Thought to be lost up until the 1970s when it was recovered from the infamous Alois Dettlaff’s private collection, ‘Frankenstein’ has slowly established itself as one of the greatest silent shorts within the early horror genre.

Kickstarter is a start-up based in Brooklyn that uses the Web to match aspiring da Vincis and Spielbergs with mini-Medicis who are willing to chip in a few dollars toward their projects. Unlike similar sites that simply solicit donations, patrons on Kickstarter get an insider’s access to the projects they finance, and in most cases, some tangible memento of their contribution. The artists and inventors, meanwhile, are able to gauge in real time the commercial appeal of their ideas before they invest a lot of effort — and cash.

Film director Roman Polanski, arrested in Switzerland three weeks ago to face extradition in a U.S. sex case, has been moved from jail for medical treatment, his French lawyer said on Saturday.
“All I know is that he has been taken from prison for medical attention. I don’t know where he is or when he will be returned to prison,” French lawyer Herve Temime told Reuters.
